Depression is sometimes referred to as the “common cold” of mental health issues. The reason for this description is that the state of feeling depressed is experienced by everyone at one time or another, and that depression can mitigate, much like the common cold, by itself. However, there are times when depression is more severe than simple feelings of sadness. At these times, an individual should seek the assistance of a trained professional.
